What pricing strategy is used by Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's & Morrison and how do they differ?

Sainsburys marketing lets you know that they arent the cheapest and that you can get unusual (try something different) - more expensive things there, asda only tell you about price(thats asda price), tesco place themselves somewhere in the middle of them (value range and extra special- every little help)) morrisons do it on special offers and fresh food. end of the day if supermarket A is cheaper for one thing they will be more expensive on something else, "loss leader" its worth selling lager cheaper than water for example because you will probably stay and do your whole shop there. so their pricing strategys dont really matter that much.

Up the demand, up the price.
Down in demand, up the price and say it was discounted.

It is all a con.

These companies fabricate competition, when in reality they all agree on a price point.

Checkout the offers as they cycle round the top four. One week chicken is BOGOF at JS then the week after there is a similar offer at Tesco, then Morrisons, and Asda.

The only prerequisit it seems, is to ensure that the independants are consistantly undercut.

pretend you bought a chocolate bar for £1.
the supermarket divides it like this

33% gross profit
33% cost of manufacturing and distribution
33% staff and uptake

It's all very confusing - prices go up and down the whole time. The best to get the lowest price on your shopping at these supermarkets is to use http://www.mySupermarket.co.uk - it compares prices, as well as helps you save within your favourite supermarket.

BOGOF.... Buy one get one free..... also loads of others!
