You always do better having your own domain name and web hosting account using a good blog software program with add-ons that supports SEO. WordPress has many such extras.
When you use another blogging service you are bringing traffic first to that web hosting account then secondary to your blog.

I too would go for Wordpress, although whichever one you choose it helps a lot if you can choose the right one for you first time.
Wordpress is the only one I've tried, so I can't comment on the others. But I must say it's so powerful it just has everything you could possibly need - and free of charge at that. Can't be bad.
Like desertcities says, it's best to have your own domain name and hosting so you retain full control and establish your own unique identity. Thanks, desertcities, for the link to the Wordpress SEO All-In-One Plugin.
