The most important part of your name is going to be how well people remember it. I would personally get as many opinions as you can, narrow it down, and then ask people's opinions on the final choice. If you can create a name recognition you have a very good chance that when people need your service, your name will pop into their head. I would choose something simple, not too many words, and the closer you can get to the front of the alphabet (for telephone book purposes), the better you will be. For instance, people are more likely to call "A+ Lawn" since it is in the front of the book than they would be "Pro Lawn Service." Lastly, your name should give the impression that you are the best at what you do and that they are in good hands when they hire you. Despite what people may say it is true that they would rather hire "Superior Landscape" rather than "Greg's Lawn Care." Good luck!

What's in a name? nothing if it does not benefit your customers but every thing if it has value for its users. Xerox means nothing otherwise but means hell of a lot to every one who needs copying. Quality one at that.
Your geographical identification will be useful in immediate business success requirements. Simple thing like 'Windsor lawns' or 'Wimbledon Greens' is enough to start of with. But as the time goes by you will have to back it with excellent customer service to earn good reputation.

I would ignore the advice of getting an "A" name to be first in the phone book. I sold Yellow Pages for 25 and NEVER had a business succeed because of using an "A" name.
Describe what you do in the name.
Like "Premier Lawn Care and Maintence" or
"Bill's Trimming and Weeding Service."
I agree that you need not use you name in the business name. It's more professional to say, "Grounds Keeping Unlimited" than "Fred's Best Lawn Service."
Finally, check with the Secretary of State where you live to make sure the name is available and not duplicated. Also check the business White Pages and do an online local search.
Then grab a domain name for a website and register the name with the Sec of State or get an LLC or Corp. for your protection.

How about...

"Ace Lawn Service"
"Happy Lawns"
"Blades Away"
"Lawns Alive"
"Lawns Today"

Hope these help.

Pick a name that endears your service to the community. So if it's a mostly Irish community, pick something that sounds Irish. If it's a low income, pick something that emphasis your lower cost (but same service). Really your name isn't real important, as long as it's not idiotic. Study your competition, save all the brochures and coupons, and read the yellow pages ads. Price your services at or below the current rate (even call around to get some quotes).

Once you get some customers ask for testimonials, or a sentence or two describing what they thought, and put these on the brochure. Really get to know your customers, even sending them stuff from time to time. Repeat business will be essential, and maybe you can pick up some from other services who aren't satisfied. When you do, talk with them and find out why. Pay lots of attention to your customers and they will tell you what they want.

I agree that you need not use you name in the business name. It's more professional to say, "Grounds Keeping Unlimited" than "Joe's Best Lawn Service."
Finally, check with the Secretary of State where you live to make sure the name is available and not duplicated. Also check the business White Pages and do an online local search.
Then grab a domain name for a website and register the name with the Sec of State or get an LLC or Corp. for your protection.

And remember--if somebody else copies you--imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I would consider what your competition is using for names first of all. Make sure to chose one that distinguishes you from the group. Something with longevity, meaning it will not lose it's impact 5-10 years down the road. Also as mentioned in another response make sure it is memorable, and defines you as a leader.
It might even be a good idea to look into what consumers look for in a lawn care provider and try to formulate a name implying such things. cjd.
