lauriebparis | What to do think of Avon saleswomen going door to door? |
They have a brochure 150 pgs long, do you invite them in, stop them before give you one??? What would you do? |

I would not open the door for any stranger, i only buy avon if somebody i know is selling it. I think it would be dangerous for the avon lady to knock on random peoples door. |

DON'T LET HER GO IN... JUST SAY NO THANKS I'M NOT INTERESTED IN PURCHASING ANY PRODUCTS FROM AVON |

No, I think it's annoying. |

I didn't think anybody still did that anymore! I have a No Solicitors sign on my front door so I don't get any sales people. |

unless i'm truly interested, I would shoo them away. There's a no-call list for a reason, and going door-to-door is just going over the top. |

Wow I thought the last Avon lady may have been from the movie Edward Scissorhands.. surely they don't expect every house to have a woman who's that interested in cosmetics. This is a difficult question for me to answer as I only use a certain kind of foundation but if you wore makeup at the door its likely that they'd ask you all kinds of questions.. |

It is another way of marketing and sales promotion, to create brand image. It is the duty of a sales women to visit door to door, it is their job they are doing, to earn.
If we are in leisure, then hear what she say. If we are busy, we say sorry. But I do not forget to take free samples. |

I'm not sure if you are the salesperson or not. But if you are I have lots of advice!!!!
I feel intruded if people come to my door to sell me stuff!! Also people are busy or not home so it would be time consuming with low sales. If you do door to door...your best bet to get the most sales is to not be too aggressive, be friendly, dress nicely and make sure your makeup is perfect since that is a staple of Avon. If they say they are busy or no one is home, leave them with a flyer and your information for them to look over when they have more time. And give it to people who say they are not interested and simply say that if they change their mind they can look over your flyer.
I also think that they best part of independent sales businesses like Avon is that you can throw an Avon party. Make sure you put information about it on the flyer you make. That is the true selling point, women love to get together with their friends for an all girls night and drink a glass of wine and share their experience with the products (and men)! Try to make the parties the highlight and headline of your flyer. If I got that, I would consider calling you up or emailing you to set up a party. It is also beneficial for you, because when people come to that type of party, they buy at least one thing so they don't seem like they just came for the food or wine, or so they don't look like they are having money problems in front of their friends.
It also benefits you because you get their email addresses at the party to contact them later and remind them that they were meaning to get together with their friends again and have another Avon party. Remind them of how much fun it was and let then know of new products. If they have a positive experience hanging out with their friends while buying your products, they are more likely to be a repeat purchaser. Also they are more likely to buy additional products when they run out on their own without needing a party. I'm not sure how Avon works, but other companies allow you to have your own website connected to their main one so people can buy things online and just put in your name as their agent and you get the benefits. If that is not the case with AVON you could make your own simple website with your name and feature a product of the month and have the same information as your flyer. This way they can contact you for their individual purchases by email or phone or to your AVON brochures with your name and reference number on the back.
Sorry so long!! One more thing. The brochure/catalogs have too many products to keep someone interested and to make a decision on what to buy. Pick a few products you want to showcase. You should be able to tell what a person would be interested in just by looking at their house, the clothes and makeup they have on, and their age. This way you are showing them things they might actually want. Then let them know there's no pressure and you will leave the brochure for them to look over. Also to encourage them to not forget about it and throw it away, have dates far in advance for parties you throw at your house or at a local community space. You could do that once a month. Alternate the themes each month. Throw ones specific to closest neighborhoods to you with the theme of "AVON meeting new people in the neighborhood, bring pot luck, dessert, appetizer party and you will get a free (something cheap). Other themes could be, "AVON party for busy mommies, bring your child and there will be a babysitter available so you can enjoy yourself. Pick a babysitter who will do it free or cheap and in exchange be able to give all the mommies their card so they can call the babysitter and use them again at their own house" "Busy Career Women, have it later in the evening like 7pm and provide dinner or hearty appetizers." You can also ask women for ideas for theme parties.
Hope this helps!!!! |

Hmmm - difficult to say. I don't care much for door-to-door or cold-calling, myself. I think that advertising has gotten a little over the top (which is difficult for me to deal with since I own a business and must advertise) -- howver, I understand that some people still use these techniques as they have been proven to work, in some cases.
In this case, it's your call. If you want to talk to her, then do so at the door and get whatever info you choose. I would *never* invite a stranger into my home, however, no matter what they are selling. It's too dangerous these days.
If you don't want to talk to her, then say "no thank you" and shut the door. No different that if you were to get a cold call on the phone. They have to understand that it's *your* decision if you want to talk to them, and if the customer perceives them to be a nuisance, then they are such. |
