I am creating pamphlets for my business and i don't have much 'real' experience (only about 6 months working professionally, although I did this as a hobby before). What should I say to convince them that I can do a good a job as anyone else.

I can definitely relate--new to my business area as well, but very enthused.
I don't think you should have to lower your prices, offer guarantees and all those empty meaningless marketing efforts that don't prove your greatness.
What I would do..is invest in cheap dvds where you can create a beautiful video presentation of the different areas you're an expert in--you're work is the best resource for showing off your level of expertise. Or provide a link on your website as an actual source to the experience the customer will get. You can also play the video up and go through step by step what the customer would receive as a service and the benefits..
For the dvd, you can give them out to people instead of boring pamphlets--c'mon you do video editing, it should be relatively simple to do.
IF someone questions your ability, disprove them with your work. Give them a sample--but you don't have to cheapen your price. It's harder to raise your price down the line, than to lower it. Video and photo editing is an area that takes a lot of your precious time,but they still have to pay for the quality of work..
Be ready with video of your work, and it'll shut 'em right up! |

you have a few options.
1. list your previous experience. It was only 6 months, but its something
2. offer to show sample work. You might even want to create some photos and videos just to show to your customers to demonstrate your abilities.
3. offer to perform work with little or no payment up front, based on satisfaction by your customer. There is always the risk that you won't get paid for your work, but for every person who doesn't pay you'll get 10 people who are willing to use you because they know they will get a product they like before they have to pay.
If it were me, I would use both option 2 and 3. I'd make no reference to previous experience or lack of experience. Just show what you can do. |

focus on your strengths, highlight what you can do better then your competition. Show your customers your results and get testimonial for your work.
Don't mention you don't have a lot of experience, let your work speak for itself.
Try doing one or two at a discounted price for a referral or testimonial.

Explain everything that you did a a hobby, but don't call it a hobby, and make sure you include the exact programs you know how to use.
Explain how you love this field and would like to learn more about it and take it as far as you can.
State that you have been doing this professional for 6 months, that a good amount of time if you are young.
Make sure you have as many examples as possible in your pamphlets. I assume you want people to go to your portfolio online, but they have to want to go to it.

Hobbies ARE EXPERENCE! just not paid experience
Use all experience while a hobby ... do not say hobby though. just put the years you did it. if they ask about pay said "unpaid" or " volinteer" or something like that

I wouldn't even mention prior work experience. Keep the focus on your sample work. A great way to do this would be creating an online portfolio that can be browsed by customers. If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a good one should be enough to prove your experience! |
