Whats the best cost-effective way of promoting a website to the public?

Im trying to promote a site which is useful to the public. However, i need to know a way of making sure the public know about it.

Provide useful information to people. Write articles about Dubai and submit them to directories or find writers to write them for you at places like scriptlance.com.

I have a list of such article directories at my website. But don't submit every article to every one. Post one article to each of the topped ranked directories and then repeat. Other sites will pick up your articles and be required to link back to your site, if you include your link in the article.

Start submitting your site to free directories. I also list about 500 at my site.

The wikipedia article on Dubai ranks number one in Google for the term. Study this article and see if you can extend it somehow. Write an article that adds to what Wikipedia has provided. Post this article to your site and then add it as an external link at wikipedia.

By making your site search engine friendly and making sure you have promoted it to the major search engines, the Dmoz directory, other business specific engines/directories to start with. - Regional SE's and categories. Do what you can for free. Keyword bidding etc can be more expensive than you think, and none productive at times.

You need to research what makes a website search engine friendly yourself. Many so called SEO's and designers have not got the slightest clue as to how to structure a website or promote it naturally. Yes, incoming links are great, but not all SE's use link popularity. PR in google is only partially important. Build a natural none spam site with useful content and you will probably find that's better long term than quick idiot 1000 doorway pages etc and some moron SEO who submits your site to worthless FFA pages no one ever visits anyway or which give very little in terms of value of an incoming link. Ignore 90% of advice you see from people recommending websites pushing marketing strategies... For example, look through most of the replies in the Search Engine section on here, and you will see what I mean.

PS.. free advice, you need to sort all that garbage spam text and title tag code on your website ;)

There are many ways more to promote your site but it takes effort and time. You should have a action plan on how to promote your side. I would recommend that you stick to maybe just 3 type of traffic generation strategies first and slowly include more when you start to see results.

Google, like any other searh engine counts the number of links to a site. therefore link to as many sites as you can. There are link sellers on line who will sell you 10,000 links to place you in the top 50 sites on any search engine, but be wary, this is cyberland after all.
