A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:
1) Create a blog pertaining to your field
2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!
3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.
4) Advertise on Craiglist
Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

Take some pictures and put them on Picture Trail. Then send people to look at them like I do. My pictures get from 300 to 700 viewings a week. I personally have a $20 a year account but they have free service too. |

Make nice posters and ask store owners if you can tape it to their window, or put on their bulletin board. Have some business cards placed in a pocket, or make tear-off name/addresses along the bottom. |

borrow a web design book from a library and design your own web page or just advertise it on your account at myspace and if you don't have a myspace account open up one, it's free anyway and it's worth a try. hope i helped! |

print some samples of your work as a 'business card' and put them through the doors of local business or organisations which might need your services.
Put a 'signature' on the bottom of every email you send, point at a 'Yahoo' or other free hosted online album where you can show off - make sure the samples are good enough to view but low-res so worthless to print. |

you could have put a link/contact detail in that question, other than that just attatch it to the bottom of every email you send, every form of communication needs to include it, start local/with the people you know, and build it up through there, word of mouth is the best |
