I think that, though they may try to tailor-match the ads, some ads are shown all over. I live in Alaska. We are civilized and have many restaurants, insurance companies, etc. However, the last several months, I see many, many ads for Sonic. There is not a Sonic in the state. I was hoping this meant that one would be coming here soon, but there are no plans for that. They have not applied for any licenses, permits, etc. We also get K-Mart ads too and we no longer have a K-Mart in the state. Same with Olive Garden.
So I believe it is half-and-half, maybe if they can tailor-match an ad, they do it. Otherwise we see what everyone else sees. |

It really depends on where the ad was purchased. for example if you purchase some ad time with Animal Planet directly through them, then you ad will be seen nationally wherever Animal Planet is available. However, you can buy some ad time through different cable company that will only be local or statewide.
Depending on what you are trying to sell or advertise, it may be beneficial to have a specific market targeted and to only spend money to reach these people. i.e. you would not advertise snowmobiles in the southern states! |

yes. if i pay for national network advertising the answer sure better be yes. local stations do not have to run the network ads (or shows for that matter) but usually do except for during local programing.
if you mean do some national advertisers have different campagins for different parts of the country the answer is also yes. |

No. In fact. It only happen when a broadcast is simalcast accross the country.. Like when the superbowl happens. In most cases when a show is run on the east coast a different show is running othe west coast. Beyond that, your local network or cable providers also control some of thier ad invetory. You can tell this because you will see some ads that are only valid for your local market.

Advertisements are matched to specific markets and each market has a different cost to help with marketing budgets. However, there can be a 'national market' where we all see the same advertisements like for the Super Bowl. |
