It's a way of saying there is a potential customer base already in existence. In other words, there are people who are ready to buy the product but can't because it is not for sale yet.
Most companies try to make products that people already want (faster computers, stylish cars) than products they will have to make people want through marketing ($700 jeans, talking toilet seats). |

In order to profit from selling a product/service there has to be a market for it. In order to determine the market, certain variables have to be taken into consideration; demographics, psychographics, lifestyle, trends etc... Doing so identifies the group of people (the market) which represents the greatest opportunity and potential for profit.
For example, after much marketing research, it was discovered that Canada is the biggest market for cosmetics...(huge market). This was concluded by simply researching the variables I listed above. |

I make more than that in a month from this comapny anyway so it pays for itself.
