There is nothing "dumb" about the question you have asked. Education through research is great. When a person builds a website he or she has several options when it comes to monetization. Most common are through providing a service, product and/or information of value to the seeker. If you don't personally have a product or service to sell, building a informational website is a great option. You can get paid from others visiting your site through paid advertising and/or affiliate marketing. If you would like to see a great video that touches well on this subject, you can visit SiteSell's (a web hostiing company) website and link to the video their, http://www.customized-by-you.com The video shows many examples and ideas of website options.

The answer is yes you can make money from more hits* (page views). If you make a kick a** website and you have alot of unique visitors, then you can contract with an ad company and they pay you to post their ads. The more unique visitors you have the better off you are and the more you make. If all the page views come from the same 20 ip addresses then you won't make a dime.
"Hits" a website recieves is different from page views. A site can get 100,000 hits a day but only 1000 page views. Every time the server is asked to display a file including pictures or supporting web graphics for displaying a single page ..THe 1 page view could generate 50 hits.. |

Yes you can get paid by hits. It works like this: people view the ad, but don't click on it, then maybe they will remember what they saw in the ad on your site and type in the company that was advertising later, the ad still brings in a visitor either way. Depending on how popular the website is you can make a great deal of money with not a great amount of clicks. |

No. This refers to the traffic. You can put Google adsense on your site and make money when people click on the ads.Go to Commission Junction and you can become an affiliate for lots of companies. My site www.truckingjobsdirect.com has both if you would like to see how it works.
But you need traffic to make money off these types of sites. Traffic is a critical factor. Getting traffic their is in itself an art.
You can drive traffic to your site through paid search. Google and Yahoo makes a great deal of their revenues by advertisers paying for keywords it drive traffic to their sites. The advertisers hope people will click through their site and make a purchase or click on ads within their site as I mentioned before.
Their is also organic or free search. You can optimize your site with revelant content that will have interested parties find you through the keywords they enter when searching. Besides content your site design and internal and external links are necessary to get a high rankings on search engines. You can type in search engine marketing and read more indepth information on these strategies.
Now you know a little about how to get traffic to your site. I wish you the best luck. |

No. But most people have websites to make money, either by selling products or by the ads on the sites. |

Hi,
Google AdSense for content automatically crawls the content of your pages and delivers ads (you can choose both text or image ads) that are relevant to your audience and your site content—ads so well-matched, in fact, that your readers will actually find them useful.

No you won't get money from just getting hits. You will get money by putting advertising on your site such as Google Adsense or Yahoo ads. You then get money every time someone leaves your site by clicking on the ad. Or you can sell something on your site and get money that way. |
