Five grand on directories....OUCH!! That's got to hurt.
I'm absolutely gobsmacked that you are asking where you can advertise after it cost you £5k to find out that advertising did not work.
I've never met anyone in IT that looks for suppliers in Thomson (yes I googled you).
92% of technology related purchases are initiated online that has got to tell you something.
You need to get your sales message out there to as many people as possible as cheaply as possible rather than just contact details. Include what you do better than the competition, why customers trust/use you. Your sales message should also end with an action - email me back, call me, fill out a questionnaire or click this link for XYZ...
There are several low cost marketing angles to generate a stream of qualified leads that come to you.
emails, blogging, faxes but keep your sales message simple.
Tell them what you have got.
Tell them what it will do for them.
Tell them what you would like them to do next.
Cheers

P.S. Do a little bit, see what works and then do more of what works then you don't run the risk of loosing money.
PPS Generate traffic to your website. Give them a reason to give you their email addresses (a freebe like a paper on the top 10 reasons that cause IT downtime that you can put together in 5 mins - for example) and then market into them via newsletter, helpful info etc. If you give them something free it gets them used to buying from you and your brand.
PPPS your website is down at the moment - That has to come first! |

Use services online to post it on. Classifieds like http://www.sellit-right.com/ allows that. |

Think about who you want to target as your customers. General public or businesses? If it's the public/home user, put up postcards in newsagents' windows or drop them through people's doors.
If you're going for the business market, pick some specific businesses that need the services you offer and target them tightly. For example, if you could help therapists set up a simple appointments system with follow-up correspondence, aim your marketing at them. Maybe you want regular maintenance contracts with medium sized companies that don't have their own IT department.
Advertising in directories is too hit and miss. Using the therapist example, find a forum where they gather and post in the business section - not blatant advertisements but something that's useful to them, builds up your credibility and makes you their first choice when they need help.
Networking is a very good way of finding business. There are groups that have an annual fee plus meeting fees, like BNI and BRE, and others that are free or per meeting - some of the Business Link and Chamber of Commerce meetings, for example. Build up relationships with your fellow networkers so that they refer you to people in their network.
If you're going to advertise, do it in publications that are read by your target market. For example, one of our businesses targets interior designers. We advertise in IDFX magazine which is read by them.
Even if you think you want a broad customer base, find a way of breaking them down into groups so that you can target them more easily. Pick off a group at a time and work out where they gather, either physically or virtually - on the net - or what they read. Sometimes it may seem a little more expensive but you'll get better results. We run a quarter page ad in an area glossy magazine every month. It costs us £150 plus VAT. Just one order, which is usually at least that for the product we advertise, covers the price of the ad so all other orders are bringing us profitable returns.
Good luck! |

How about going to Craig's List and listing this under Services Offered. Take plenty of business cards for referrals. |

well you've advertised here just now for a start, (i got my posts removed for doing that lol). But you could do flyers, local newspapers, flyers in local newspapers, newsagent windows, flyers pinned up in popular places, www.freeindex.co.uk, exchange links with other related websites... |
