You can advertise on relevant free classifieds ( www.craigslist.org) , directories (dmoz) and relevant forums. Major search engines like Yahoo, Google , MSN search are a major source of visitors for most websites and you can submit your website to these search engines for free. try starting a blog pertaining to what you do. write 3 articles per week and submit them to blog submission websites. make sure that your blogs have rss feeds so people can use them on their sites if they want and remember to attach a signature so you receive a one way link back to your site. this really helps your search engine ranking. or reciprocal linking with other websites.

There are places which will accept press releases (aka announcements) and broadcast them on the internet for free. Most are pretty lame. I work for a company that offers both free and paid distribution. It's PRWeb.com and you can find many positive comments about it throughout Y! Answers and other internet forums. Sure, I'm a wee bit jaded, but it is the most well positioned to help you.
