You are the person doing the junk hauling and you don't know who your target market is? Surely you don't haul junk all over the United States, or wherever else it is that you reside.
Potential customers should be instantly obvious to you.
Are you not located in a particular city, town and state? Then that geographical area is your target market. End of story.
Depending on your budget, you could easily register a domain and build (or have a competent webmaster/SEO build) a simple website to promote the service for your local area.
Cost estimate:
Domain = $10 per year
Hosting = $60 per year
3 page website = $500
SEO/positioning = $1000
Total cost: $ 1570
Return on your investment would depend on the competitiveness of the hauling service in your given area, the prices you charge and whether your average customer uses the Web to search for your type services.
Summary: If you acquired 5 jobs per month for $100 each (from the website), it would take you about 3 months to recover your investment; everything after that is gravy. |

What the person above me is talking about is Pay Per Click (PPC). It can be hard sometimes to manage that campaign. Have you tried advertising on Craigslist? Your target audience is most likely families, businesses and anyone who wants to get rid of junk -- which is a very wide and open arena.
You may want to consider doing an online press release saying that you are now extending your services to this area and this area - you can convert any tidbit into "newsworthy" stuff. You have endless opportunities. |

I had a few gigs w/ a junk hauling company in the DC area and one of the things that the owner did (I rode in his truck, so I got to know him pretty well) was to actually pay google (the search engine) to have his company show up at the top of the search page when "junk hauling" was googled. Whenever someone clicked on his link, google would charge him $5 if I remember correctly. Hope that helps. |

I think your target audience would be those moving from one place to another. That is an audience that sometimes realizes that they have too much junk to take with them so yes they would need to have junk removed or donated to the salvation army. As for your pay per click, you have to look into phrases that people would type to match your services. Say like:
Washington DC Mattress removal
DC Junk Hauling
etc. .
Those could be great keyphrases to use in craiglist as a title for your ad posting as well, Repeat that in craigslist every 2 weeks and you will definitely be listed in google for the natural results for free!! (listings on the left hand side, not the right side or sponsored links) |
