Why are all ads for watches set for the same time?

Wide Awake
Many ads are set to approximately 10:10.
This gives lots of room for the watch/clock name either above or below the hands. Back in the days when additional words were put into ads with clock faces, this gave them more room to add such words.
Separating the circle in this way also approaches the "golden mean" of approximately 2/3 - 1/3. This division is aesthetically pleasant to the eye.

Bottom line, it's an old habit, and it probably won't change any time soon.

meltdwn_21
its set to the ten and two o clock position to just basically make it look symmetrical.

GOOGLE ROCKS!!!!
Because they only sell watches at a certain time of day

I have actually asked a shopkeeper once as I couldnt help noticing everywhere. It is set at 10.10, he told me it signifies a smile and if you look carefully at 10.10 it does.

lol i have never noticed that? What time are they set for?

mervelash
because it is aesthetically pleasing.... makes people want the watches.. I mean think about it... would you buy a watch which read the time 6:31... it just looks stupid... of course you would not!

rinpardee
It's to show off the logo

Bramhastra
Wow! This question came up like when I was a kid. Usually, the mechanical watches are set to 10:10 (Seconds are usually at 35) but lately, I have noticed that they are not at specific location (as long as they are not overlapping other hands of the watch).

This is done to achieve two objectives.
1) Make sure all the needles of the watch are clearly visible and are not overlapping each other.
2) Some one , somewhere thought that 10:10:35 is more esthetically pleasing that any other combination and that stuck.

Hope this helps

apperantly its becasue the bomb that went off in Hiroshima - the time the bomb went off all wqatches, computers, laptops etc... stopped. So its easier for the time to be set. But i also see why it is like that because its easier for companies to design their logo in the middle to see.. Could be for both - I'm not certain - Someone told me
