I know that they have a low budget, but I know that it's no excuse. You can make pretty decent commercials with almost no money. |

Where I live there are some pretty sad comercials too but there are also some very good ones. To me it all comes down to imagination. Add good imagination and those same low budget dollars and you'll have a good little local advertisement. |

local commercials are so bad cause they do not a proper infrastructure by infrastructure i mean that they are not having a proper creative approach , they uncover the need of tapping the right segement . |

Because they are local and they have to pay everything for themselves, and most of the time, they only have one or two locations, at the most, so they can't focus too much on the quality of the commercial because it would cost them too much. |

It is a simple fact. If you have quality skills you can charge more as people who are interested in quality will pay more for it.
Those who are more interested in the cheapest commercial they can get will have to settle for the less skilled. |

I Did a couple of Infomercials,a few voice-overs, and your correct.Given the proper time and focus,any bit of Marketing can be as good,if not better than most of the ad's on T.V. or any radio station. |

When you say local commercials, are talking about radio, TV or newspaper? I am going to assume you are talking about TV and radio. I have often wondered the same thing. In fact I have often laughed at the bad acting on local commercials. I would assume it is because those people are really not actors. I think that most of them are from the local TV and Radio stations. We have one going on right now. It is the where is Bill commercial. I guess Bill is on vacation and there is a contest going on to figure out exactly where Bill is the whole time he is gone. They give clues and you send them in and I guess you can win something. Not sure what it is, because I never listen close enough. That is how interested I am. Then there are the ones on the local radio stations. Thoses are really bad. I end up turning off the radio. There again I think the quality of acting is poor because they are not real actors and just people who work at the radio station. That would be my guess. If find out different let me know. Good question though. |

The reason local television commercials often look bad compared to national commercials is because of the difference in production quality. McDonalds may spend $500,000 to produce a commercial - and then still have to buy their placement. Most local businesses don't spend $500,000 total on their advertising, let alone spend it on production of one single spot. That is one reason local businesses generally turn to radio. On the radio, their locally produced spot can sound just as professional and important as the national commercial produced by a major corporation. It levels the playing field. |

From my experience, a lot of local spots are produced by TV or radio stations and rarely employ "professional" creatives in their development. Plus, lots of small businesses create spots and they really don't know they suck.
So, can you do a good/great spot cheaply? Yes.
Can you do so without the help of a professional? Probably not. |
