Because labor is extremely inexpensive.

Soapin's estimate of $0.25/hour is generous, actually. I had a situation at work where my boss wanted to give an employee a reward of $1000, but it was not allowed. They told us that this would be more than the Chinese employee's annual income.

Life after 45
Are you serious? The sweat shops over there pay like $0.25 per hour, so even after importing the crap, our greedy businesses can make HUGE profits! You don't think Wal-Mart got as big any other way do you? ;)

zolerino
It is caused by the low costs of production. Mainly handwork.

cheap foreighn labor you ever had a good paying job yet and lost the company too somebody like china?? they work like,25 cents on the dollars, never heard of somthing like, 12.00 too fiftenn dollars and hour over here greed is the part of itt, and everything is being mass producedd in china now!!

tigglys
CHEAP LABOR.

because of the lowest production cost which means the product can be sold at lower price and still gain some profit.

Business Owner
Because the big bosses in both US (corporations marketing and importing the products) and China (manufacturers making the products) wants to make the biggest profit for their pockets. All the Chinese made products sold in US are for the US companies (P & G, Wal-mart, Target, GE, Rubbermaid, etc., etc.). That's how they can afford the CEO's fat wallets and big mansions. Neither the Chinese workers nor American workers are better off by this.

tmweber
inexpensive... I wouldn't say cheap. The most of the items there are very good quality.
