T he education system is designed to achieve numerical targets, not to help people to be able to think and evaluate.
The celebrity fixation has created aspirations which are based on achievement of trivial symbols - easy targets for a very clever marketing sector.
The 'me, me, me and my rights' culture encourages people to look for easy fixes - acquisition without evaluation.
Why have we voted in a hypocritical, socially manipulative, venal and dishonest set of politicians for the past ten years, at least? For the same reasons; but then politicians are the original marketeers of junk, rip-offs and phoney offers. |

I think you've been gullible in assuming that all Brits are the same... only a gullible fool would lump an entire population of over 60 million under any single label.
In my job as Law Practice Manager I assist with answering email requests for advice and we receive a fair proportion of them from overseas, including the USA. I would say a higher proportion of the ones from the US show a degree of naivity which far exceeds anything I have experienced in the UK.
The famous con trick where a con-man "sells" British national monuments such as Windsor Castle or Stonehenge to gullible American millionaires is well known. I don't recall any Brit ever "buying" an American National monument. |

I'm pretty sure sherlock is british looking at his other questions and answers. I suspect people are taking the question the wrong way, i dont think he's trying to be openly offensive, he's simply saying why do so many people fall for the scammers out there.
to answer Sherlock, I think its a worlwide issue, there's always someone out there thats a little naive or easily pursuaded and thats what these people relly on. No one can be educated in everything. |

Because they've been brainwashed by the media to think the capitalist system is an innocuous, trustworthy, caring inevitability in life, and it's not out to rip them off. |
