Because to make money, drug companies need us all to believe that we need their product. It takes a lot of money to make people think they need a drug.
No different than soap, shoes, jeans.
That said, it makes me kinda ill to think about it. I saw the story about this on the news last night. |

Because many of psychiatric drugs such as Prozac, Ritalin, Xanax, etc, do not treat anything. It takes millions to persuade somebody to use them. They do no good to anybody except to psychiatrists and pharmacological industry who make huge profit out of it. Many of those drugs are actually harmful and are being sold on the streets as street drugs as well.
Psychiatric drugs do not cure anything, they just mask the real problem. |

Hi Suzi. To sell is to advertise, to advertise you need a marketing company. Once a product, IE, Drug has been finally developed, the cost of reproducing the same drug is far less than the research, IE manufacturing the drug available for wholesale. My darling witch (spelt with a B) of an ex wife, was a doctor here in France, we were inundated with weekends away in beautiful hotels, Golfing weeks and many other interesting and expensive activities, which must have cost a fortune for the company. It is these people that are recognised as there potential outlet. The research and development side has a minimal outlet, most companies use a floor of a building and rent the other floors to other companies, therefore getting money back into the bank. I have a friend who is using his basement as a medical research facility, which does not cost the company anything and he can claim back the taxes on his house as he uses it to work for more than 8 hours a day (including 2 hour lunches). So you see it is cheaper to research and develope a drug, plus mass production is cost effective, giving the company more money to promote there goods and still make a profit. Peter |
