The convention in the industry is to display a watch with the short hand on the ten position, and the long hand at the two position. Similarly, when you see a photo (promotional or commercial) of a driver in a car, his/her hands are invariably at the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions. Legend has it that 10:10 is an "optimistic" time, with both hands pointed upward. 5:25 would be depressing with both hands pointing downward, and 3:15 , 6:00, 12:00, etcetera, would either have the hands overlapping, or merged into one line. Apparently, I have too much time on my hands! Good Question! |

at 10:10 the clock looks like it's "smiling". If the time was 4:40 the clock would look "sad".
You don't even realize it, but us humans tend to see everything as faces (like the man on the moon, the face of the clock, etc.). Havinbg a smiling clock would make you feel good about the commercial. |
