Why do some corporate phone numbers are advertised in the format 1800-CALL ABCD?
It is often seen that phone numbers are given in this format (corporate name in place of ABCD) with the actual phone number in brackets
Because it is easier to remember words then a random assortment of numbers.
Are you going to remember that 1-800-468-4688 is a porn line or that 1-800-HOT-HOTT is a porn line?
I haven't seen a commercial for Interstate batteries in over a decade but I still remember their phone number is 1-800-CRANK-IT

makes the number easy to remember

What's easier for you to remember during the 30 seconds that a commercial airs, a 7 digit number you've never seen or a word or two you already know? This way you can easily recall the number to dial later on if you do call the company. It's just one way to increase the effectiveness of certain marketing concepts.

The 1-800 numbers are toll free, they don't cost the caller money, and the companies think it is easier to remember the number if you know the name you are calling, and they believe more people will call their business if it is in that format. It is a marketing strategy.

Although the number sequence goes beyond the standard format, companies will use a number that is easier to remembre or sounds good in a jingle. The extra number will not effect the call when dialed.

It's easier to remember and a good marketing strategy.

While silly, the sales people think that is easy to remember.
But taxis are smarter then that. Many have a number like 777-7777 or 666-6666.

It gives them a unique way to spread the word of their company and it is also easy to remember.
