Why doesn't Merchantdise ever have the price with the tax included on them?
Because they won't know the total with tax until they add all the things you are buying up. Like let's say you buy a pair of socks for 2.00. If tax is 6%, then you pay 12 cents tax. But let's say there is a special of 3 pairs for 5 dollars... Now your tax is gonna be 30 cents. You see they really can't figure in tax until they know what all you want to buy. Good question!

Sales tax is different in different states as well as different cities within each state. Also, tax rates can change fairly often and retailers get into trouble if the prices on their items are different than what they ring up at the register. It's easier to just reprogram the register.
