Why don't people read small print before signing?
I don't understand how a person can get involved in a business deal and never read the fine print. The funny thing is that when something happens to them that they agreed to by signing their John Hancock that they aren't pleased with, they try and weasel their way out of the contract when this all could've been avoided if they had just simply taken a minute to READ THE SMALL PRINT!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe its too small to notice or read (if they are farsighted). But, generally speaking, its a marketing technique when speaking in regards to contract agreements. You know in court they rarely call it a contract, its called and agreement. Most of the time people are in a rush to get the product or plan or whatever the contract is for that they forget to examine the contract well. Or they don't ever have enough time. It depends on the situation and the person. It's a smart technique though. It's like a commercial, the small text on the screen that no one can ever read. Same deal. As long as its there, legally the party is okay. They tried to notify you, the text was printed. It's so amazing to me, contracts!

Most aren't intelligent enough to comprehend the REAL meaning of the small print - after all, some of that is pretty heavy "legalese", and I don't have a law degree.

Sometimes, you have to trust people to do you right - it happens that way most of the time; we get lucky, I guess.

black_eyed_dee
do you read (and understand) all the small print?

(I simply ask because the party of the third part reffering to the party of the second part making gestures on the party of the first part may be construed as libelous if the party of the fourth pat doesn't concede to the party of the third part's litigation in the matter...)

Because the print is so small.

powhound
did this happen to you? or why ask then?

my wife never reads the small print...I have to do it for her. But I'm not talking business deals, just sales ads.

It sounds like you may be involved in a company or have your own company that has these forms with the small print. It would be a great service to your clients if you counseled them on the important aspects of this fine print. As someone who deals with contracts on a daily basis, I understand that when a client is signing documents, he/she is so frazzled by the situation that it is up to me to explain consequences of the small print and protect my clients.

I have my lawer read it all, than he gives me the nod.
