Car mechanics, hairdressers and law are also practices. There is a component of science in what you do, but a lot of art. The art is because we are complicated beings and a haircut that does not take into account waves in hair will be a horrible cut. The art in diagnosing a car problem. Not every time does a squeal meant he same ting. The art in diagnosing a patients problem - figuring out what is important and what to ignore. |

Have you used the NHS lately? They never know what they are talking about, I have seen one doctor trying to convince a patient, who by the way was standing up, that they had a broken leg when it was their arm with a bone sticking out of it. This wouldn't happen if they knew what they were doing!! |

If you know English look at the dictionary reference, Ie.Chambers ref. Practice.1 the process of carrying something out. 2 a habit acivity, procedure or custom 3repeated exercise to improve one's technique in art, sport, ect, (that seems to be the one we use and understand). 4 a doctor's or lawyer 's business or clientele-be in (or out of) practice to have maintained (or failed to maintain) one's skill in art, sport, ect.
you see like a lot of Engish words we have lost the "Practice" of speech and our teachers of English at some of our schools, do not know the languge themselfs, I have leared better English being out of the country, learning another Languge, I also lived in other parts of the U.K. where meanings of the same word were used. Ie. Starve, we would know it to mean lack of food. Some part of the U.K. first meaning would be lack of heat. so my feet or my hands would be starving, instead of being cold. I hope you have a better understanding. just pick up a word a day and look it up in a dictionary (a good one like Chambers or Oxford) and don't use the little pocket ones for this but a good one I would recommend Chambers. |

because in the first instance people train in theory then they put it into practise, so they are medically trained, but there are specialisms, surgery etc, but GP put general medicine into practise.. |

if a car mechanic repairs the car when it is on and running then he would also call it practice, so that while repairing it if engine stops he can say that he needs more practice to repair it with out stopping the engine. |
