Because as americans, we think of $20 as not a lot of money for something, especially something that could lighten our work load. So making it just under this amount makes us think it's worth the risk. Just like how they'll mark things 99 cents, because it sounds a bit cheaper. |

only 3 easy payments of $19.95!
BUT WAIT!
if you call right now, we'll DOUBLE your offer, that's right, DOUBLE, so now not only you can have a wax thingy for ur car, but so can your neighbor!
Edit: holy crap, i can't believe the guy above me said the same thing with 'but wait' thing lol |

because $19.95 sounds better than $20. |

Because it sounds much cheaper than $20.00. |

Impulse buyers will spend less than $20 pretty easily. As long as suckers keep buying, they will keep selling. |

Its compelely physological, if somebody hears 19.95 theres more of a chance of the person buying it versus 20.00.
Don't ask me why, people are just generally stupid, its been proven to work. |

most of them they get it for 1 buck from china and sell it for 19.95 and make money also they give you an extra 1 for free if you call in the next 10 min lol
and they will double the order and shipping and handling is free lol they just rip people off
but if you call in the next 5 min they will also give you a free flashlight lol |

B/c market research shows people will generally make a purchase if the price point is less than 20.00 (I agree with you on the stupidity of these inventions). |

They probably think that people wouldn't spend more than a couple of bucks anyways on their inventions. |

It's all for money basically. The marketing trick is to get you into buying something that you don't really need. Once you buy it you'll hardly use it anyway. Or if you do, it's not that much better than a smelly sponge. Everything can smell if it's exposed to odor.. |

...or the one about a purse than has room for EVERYTHING....how lame |

Yeah I know!!! And its not even worth that!! |

because people will be use to this idea that it's only 19.95. When something wacky comes they feel excited to buy the invention. |

People who watch television and will actually be interested in those commercials will feel more convinced with anything around 20 bucks. Heck, after all, it's only twenty bucks right?
They have people think that and they know they do. So typically afterward, they'll come up with some special free thing to go along with the package they sell, to help persuade the potential customer to buy their package.
It's a way for companies to make a quick buck that's easy to show to viewers, no matter how good the product is. |
