There are several variables that can affect this. One thing that helps is if you can get other sites to link to your site. This will help it a lot, especially in Google. Yahoo, Ask, and other search engines have a bit more complicated system, but being linked to should help as well. It never hurts to contact the company running the search engine to ensure that you are in their listings as well. If your site is important to you economically, it may be worthwhile for you to invest in paying the search engine company to get your site in the "sponsored results." This will ensure you a spot in a prominent place on the page.
There are many complicated ways that search engines index, crawl, and give search results. Your best bet is to contact the owner of the search engine, and ask them to work with you or give you advice about getting your site to the top. |

I had the same question when I started out with my website. The answer is, put a whole day aside, then type "search engine optimization" into google and read, read, read and make notes as you go along. All the information is out there. Don't believe everything you read but act on what seems sensible. You need to invest a couple of hours a day in optimising your site. You don't need to pay money to anyone. This is exactly what I did and my keywords have number one place in google. Also, you won't see any good results from google for about 6-8 months but you should see results from other search engines much earlier. MSN results should show almost immediately after you have submitted your site to them. Make sure you have set up a links page on your site which you can add to yourself (not dependent on your web designer) as you will need this before you can optimise your site. Good luck! |

there is no one alive that can help you with the little information provided. there are so many varibles. some search engines ignore you if you do certain things to get your site to be seen. other times it can be that it just has been added yet. it takes some search engines a while to update their systems. so even though you uploaded it may be a week before they update.
my best advise is to go to the search engine site in general and find out there rules for uploanding what they allow and dont allow. and how often they update and read faq.
the best option would be to send your site to a professional search engine lister. they will optimize your site for the best possible listing and then upload. its also cheaper that you think. make them itemize everything they done so you know in the future how to go about getting in search engines. |
