PC is older and insecure; he just does what he's always been told to do. Apple is younger, confident, smug and smart. (Research shows that Apple users tend to be very much like him.). PC has problems due to his disjointed nature.
PC is an older generation, on his way out. Apple is the new optimistic generation. Any 16-34 year-old guy wants to be like Apple, PC is like his dad. |

Because it is funny, so viewers actually watch. Only a small percentage actually buy, but a small percentage of several million viewers is still a lot. Most commercials are less interesting, so viewers instead go to the bathroom, mute the sound, get food, check to see what is on other channels, etc., instead of watching the commercial. Because 100% of zero is zero, a commercial with no viewers accomplishes nothing. |

Because like all good ads they boost their product while not mentioning the hundereds of downsides and do nothing but point out the downsides of the competition. They market to the uninformed consumer and focus more on making their products look cool rather than actually good. It is sort of like a smear campaign in politics. |

It demonstrates and promotes the generational differences between the two "this is not your parents computer" type thing. Kind of like what Oldsmobile used to say "this is not your dad's olds" . This is effective because what do teens and young adults have technologically that parents don't have or aren't familiar with? Nothing really, except the MAC. |

considering the Ipod makes up 40% of their total profit, i wouldn't exactly call a 5% pc market share effective, they are funny commericals, but effective, i don't think so. |

maybe because they try and make pc look not as good as mac they never show the pros on pc only the cons |

I question your premise. Is Apple's ad effective?
What percent of market share does Apple computers have versus Microsoft / Intel computers?
Sources on the Internet put Microsoft's market share at some where around 90 percent. And that includes not only Apple but Linux as well.
So it is true that the Apple commercials are popular and many young people are attracted to them and Apples brand, I'm not sure if they are effective enough to threaten Microsoft's position as the number one computer software company in the world. |

Uh.
Apple just shows off its superior technological capabilities.
Vista using computers have put themselves to shame enough, Apple doesn't even have to bash it.
Obviously I own a macbook.
I like Windows, but Vista is just horrible. Apple doesn't even have to target it. They just need to show what a great product they have.
