People drive into any gas station and are not particular about the oil company supplying the station. Why is it so? |

This is typical of commodity type products. Items where the typical consumer is not able to discern or is unaware of product differences, they often use price as the selection criterion. Companies use advertising to try to educate customers as to why their product is better (ex: cleans the engine). Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. |

If you care what brand of gas you use, your car still needs gas, even if you don't see you favorite station around. Others don't think gas brands are different so they go to the cheapest/closest station.
My favorite is Sheetz. They use American oil. I never go to rinky-dink gas stations. You don't know about the quality. The gas may be old or watered down. I've had that happen before and my car was having a fit. |

at this point, I'm looking for the cheapest I can find. which is not to say, I'm going to any off the wall station. However, if I can find it cheaper at a BP, than a Marathon, I'll go to BP..... then again, I won't do it for just a penny or two. |

The oil companies are all full of crap! Their prices are excessive and they have no excuse to charge $2.59 a gallon for a product that is refined 10 minutes away - in Richmond, California. We are paying inflated amounts in Marin County (San Rafael, CA) and cities in the central valley where the oil companies have to transport the fuel long distance - the overall price per gallon is substantially cheaper.
I have no loyalty to any one brand. I buy where it is cheap and make a point to stick with independent stations rather than the screwed up big oil companies. |

people usually dont see gas companies, as loyal, honest, and giving back to the community. little known fact: gas companies actually make lots more money when gas prices in the middle east go UP, because they just keep the price of their gas up even after the prices in the middle east go down, gas companies still keep their prices raised because they know the public will buy gas no matter what. even though gas prices in the middle east were so high this year, exon mobil and many other companies made record high incomes. |

Well, for the most part people don't have any type of brand loyalty. I'm an A/V Technician and I've sat threw many meeting from Shell and BP. Even though their prices might be higher their gas has quality. Put cheap gas in your car compared to Shell and BP and you'll feel a difference. I'm a big car guy as well and I've used cheap gas as well. I mean it all serves the same purpose, but theres more benefits for your car, for example. Better gas mileage, more power, and less long term problems with your car. Also from personal experience, Cheap gas will make your car become a lemon. |
