Why this advertising strategy?
Why do ads for airlines always feature the people and the comforts of First and Business class? The rest of us proles know it's very different in economy.
I can see that ads for stuff like After Eights feature super-elegant and sophisticated people to give us the idea that
some of this might rub off on us if we buy it, but surely no one is crazy enough to believe that about airline travel? Or are the ads just aimed at potential First and Business Class users?
I made a rule some years ago: if the flight is 5 hours or less, go economy, between 5 and 8 hours, go business class and above 8 hours, first-class. In 25 years I have flown first-class only six times but I find it well worth the extra. Of course, business travellers are the target market for advertising. It has nothing to do with snobbery. It's because they are the most frequent travellers. If you had a business, wouldn't you advertise to your biggest target market?

Advertisements are all about aspiration. We all want to be in a better, more comfortable position that we are at present. I think that is why they always business and first class. After all, if they actually showed the Dante-esque confusion and lack of space in economy for real, I don't think anybody would want to fly.

How else would they portray their product?
Do you really think they would tell the complete truth?
NO!
They exaggerate their good points and take attention away from the bad ones. That advertising!

its like with food commercials. The present it in the best way possible.
They're showing the public the best the company has to offer.

I think you are so right. Their ads are aimed towards where the big money is.
Mind you, how can anyone make economy look good?

Think you just jealous of those who fly first class. I know I am.
