Yahoo is a publicly traded company (on the stock market). They have a fiduciary duty to show a return on equity for their shareholders. All advertising can be broken down simply into eyeballs. The more eyeballs, the more money, advertisers would be willing to pay for spots reaching the eyeballs.
As I type this, there are no advertisements on the page, YET. Believe me, at some future point, Yahoo will be selling advertisements on the side of these answer blogs to potential clients. Yahoo's sales presentation will include the number of users, demographic info. on the users (compiled from our registrations), and time spent reading and answering these questions. It'll result in another online revenue stream for the company. In the corporate world, it is almost always about the money. |

People love their voice being heard. Yahoo is just offering another service to make them even a stronger player in internet search engines. I think the ones who will truly reap are those so called professionals who will claim some of these answers and ideas as their own. |

You just asked a question over it, so it obviously works. Even if it did just use you as an unwitting martyr for it's cause. Also it gets more people to use Yahoo. More people can lead to benefits for the server, so have at it. |

why not create a portal like this. alot of people including yourself has come on here to get answers to important questions that others around you could not give them answers to. So if you are getting what you need why ask why? |

probably to start something new and see if it would become big. Obviosuly it did, and that might give yahoo more popularity leading to people going to yahoo instead of google or msn....Its all for competetition...thats my guess at least |
