Would you buy this product if the ad said "don't buy this product"?
you know how all ads say "buy this product" well not in those exact words maybe but still. But what if there was an ad saying "DON'T buy this product"

would you still buy it anyway?

kaliselenite
I can see an ad saying

don't buy this product if you don't want to lose weight, (or don't want to have better sex, or don't want to learn to control your impulses, or don't want to be happy and carefree....)

but generally, negatives usually don't persuade a person.

With Bulk Up Now you too can look like me [insert picture of studdly man*] In just three weeks I got the muscle mass I never thought I could get.

Or

With Beauty and Weightloss Now, you can look like me [inset picture of sensuous woman*]. Gets rid of crows feet and helps you lose that extra 10 pounds in only 2 weeks

30 day money back Guarantee!

*not actual person who has used product. Actor/Actress only.

There you go! You have gotten ten responses just by putting"don't buy this product" into a question format. It obviously garnered attention as most of the other questions above and below your post only gained two to three answers with the exception of a couple who got 5 or 6 answers. I'd say find a way to capitalize on it.

WWJD: What Would Joker Do?

Of course not. I wouldn't buy anything if it were up to me.

I like to think that I can think for myself so providing the ad described the product fairly, I would buy it (or not) based on whether I was interested in it or not. In the same vein I currently wouldn't buy products simply because an ad told me to, and I am surprised that anybody would do that! If the ad tells me how wonderful and new something is I am LESS likely to buy it because I no longer believe it (been caught like that before) and I think if they can't think of anything original to say about the product then it can't be that different from other similar products. On the other hand, being a bit of a contrary person myself I may just resent being told to not buy it so much that I immediately go and get it just to show you who's in charge of my head!!!

That is a marketing tactic to get you to look at what they have to say. In most cases, once you read further, you will find that the marketer actually reccomends the product.

I have found too, that usually the product is really very good. Just use your judgement of the product itself. You can also do a search for review "product" and put the product name in place of the word product and you can find independent reviews.

jbenally72
That's a type of marketing strategy that uses people's curiosity.
Most people will want to check it on why not to buy this product and usually get suckered into buying anyways. It's probably one of the most powerful marketing campaigns there is.
Its like telling a child dont do do that, but they do it anyway.
Curiosity Killed The Cat.

It would have to be a VERY FUNNY ad - exceptional in order to work. I'd say only has a 5% chance of being effective.

why would they say that in the first place tho?!?!?

Joe Cool
Well - you know it is a reverse come on trying to make you curious and spend the extra minute looking at it. The issue is WHY does it say that:
DBTP-if you want to spend more elsewhere.
DBTP-if you want to purchase a lesser product elsewhere.
etc.
It has one time appeal and is murder to follow up on. What do you tell the consumer next time? You lied the 1st time?

redsox3770
No, there is a reason for that!!!
