They certainly are annoying. But can you do anything about it, no. They are like TV commercials which disturb you while watching your favourite sports or a movie, aren't they? As most of us have learnt living with those commercials (sometimes we enjoy them too, at least i do), we have to learn to live with this banners too.
And they can be informative and useful as in the future more and more companies will choose to use this as a medium to advertise not only old products but to launch new products. This will be very much targeted tracking content you surf.
Answering your question most of the time I ignore them but if I see something that interests me then I certainly click on it. Why not? |

Well, in fact banners on websites are a good advertising tool for many companies now adays provided that those companies choose the right viewing market strata.
and the other fact is that if those banners will be clickable if placed on websites that are related to your interest. i.e. banners for a company in the Middle East should be placed on Yahoo! regional-Middle East, and not on Yahoo! India.
To answer your question; yes if I finad a banner that is interesting and might respond to my needs and values, I would click it for sure.

I typically ignore, which is standard for most people. Those who work in this industry suggest it is good marketing, but they know that, when studies trace how people actually view any given website, most of the time the eyes are trained on the content they came to view on that site.
Good marketing practice is to try and tie in your message as closely as possible with the content, and it needs to be relevant. Sponsored editorial in my opinion is the most effective. |

THEY PISS ME OFF!!! I was in advertising in NYC for years. The one rule that you always follow is to try to never make your audience angry. There are so many creative and positive ways to entice peope without forcefeeding them into something. Most people get so caught up in the frustration of having been "invaded" by intrusive advertising that they don't even pay attention to the product or service advertised.
