It can provide lot's of enquires depending on the competition, the trick is to get near the front of your section,
yellow page's adverts are sorted alphabetically though the name of the person who books the ad, not the name of the company so you give your name as aaaa.Dave whatever, this will not appear in the main ad and will ensure you get in front.

It depends. If your business is local its good to advertise in yellow pages. As an example if you have restaurant its good to be in yellow pages however if you 've got finance company i wouldn't recommend it as it can be expensive and instead of paying to lots of money to yellow pages you can use that money to SEO your web site or using it for ppc campaigns.

So find someone to build a small page for you and your business and find someone to advertise it.
If you don't want to do that, start placing ads on craigslist and other sites like that.

Depends on what you are advertising, the advert and location. It can be expensive so you need to decide who is likely to want your product/service and will it achieve the right exposure to reach enough customers.
