This isn't a direct answer to your question, but it is possible that someone had slipped the $20 bill in a book back in 1969 and just found it and decided to spend it very recently. If it was out of the light and didn't get circulated, I'd think it would still look brand-new. |

Since the treasury collects all old circulating money and burns it, your twenty could be rare. i would have it checked. |

If you take it to the bank & it's a fake, they'll keep it & ask questions. Take it to a shop where you know the people & get them to scan it. They did have the watermark in them in 1969. |

It couldn't hurt to have it checked. Saddam Hussein was counterfeiting huge amounts of US currency. Remember three years ago, when our soldiers entered Baghdad? They found tractor-trailer loads of $100 dollar bills. Then we didn't hear anything else about it in the news after that.
Here's a clue: the $100 is a large denomination bill, it doesn't circulate very fast and they take a long time to wear out to the point where they wear out and must be removed from circulation.
The US Mint probably doesn't print one tractor trailer load of $100 bills in the course of five years!
Do you think Saddam was counterfeiting US currency on the grand scale...? Talk about an unconventional weapon of mass effect! (No wonder he could afford all those palaces with solid gold toilet seats.) One more reason for taking him out.
So, there is probably a lot of phoney US currency floating around the world that he made. One of them could have found its way into your pocket. |
