They were issued twice; once in, I believe, 1954 and then again in 1976. There are special ones called "silver certificate" $2 bills. They are essentially worth face value unless there are mistakes on them. But the value of something is determined by the people who value it, right? So if you want one, how much is it worth to you to have one? |

yes
and they are out of circulation because it just didn't take off,
just like the 1.00 coin. It comes and goes.
And they are worth 2.00. So unless they are special or rare (like any collecting) they are only worth 2.00 |

The $2 bills is still common and is still legal currency worth exactly two dollars! Because this bill has Thomas Jefferson on it, they always give them out in change at Monticello in Virginia (Jefferson's house).
They are worth two dollars each, and not a penny more... |

Yeah, but they really aren't in circulation any more. As the person before said, though, they're not too hard to come by so I wouldn't waste my money on an auction. |

There was a $2 bill. Yet there isn't a $2 bill around now so its sale is a rare occasion. |

Yes there have been two dollar bills. They are also called Silver certificates. They were discontinued because people were mistaking them for $20's. |

Yes. I have several in my collection.
They came out on April 13, 1976 (I just ran up and checked). I was 16 at the time. You could take a new $2 bill to the post office, buy a stamp, put the stamp on the bill, and they would postmark the bill, proving you bought it the day it came out.
Since then, they stopped making them, then started, then stopped again. The US just isn't ready for the bill.
They are NOT worth much more than $2.
The one I bought on Apr 13, 1976 is worth a lot to me.
I'll sell you one for $2 plus a stamp. So don't spend too much on eBay for one.
Enjoy!!
EDIT: Per eBay, my $2 bill with the date of issue stamp is worth $11 as buy-it-now. See item#140220400438.
Had I invested the $2 in 1976, it would be worth $7. So I'm still ahead!!! |

Now if you are talking about paper money, Aaaaaaaaha !
That's a totaly different kettle of fish. |
