You have many acquaintances! We just keep on paying until we are done (which feels like never). Don't feel alone; some are just better at disguising their debt.

There is a great deal of good advice in the other answers - what I am impressed with is that you have identified the problem and now looking for solutions to solve it. So many people bury their heads and do not take responsibility for the problem - the fact that you are doing just that is great and I applaud you.
However now that you have realistically assessed the situation and know that this is not how you want to be - now you can make plans to solve the problem. A good place to start would be to look at your living expenses and see if you can cut back. So a budget would help - the next thing is to think of ways to increase your income and use the extra to pay off your debt. It is important that you reward yourself a little along the way. Let`s say you put in a few extra hours at work and use the money towards paying off your debt - then when you have paid off perhaps £200 give yourself a small treat as a reward. Hopefully this will keep you focussed and motivated!
Good luck
