Define happiness. There are several aspects to my life, I don't know about yours. Within the scope of my little corner of the world there are several answers to this question. Depending on what particular subject is questioned on "am I happy?" , the answer would be, I am satisfied, or content, maybe tolerant, often times indifferent, a couple areas I am down right miserable, others I am seeking attainment, and yes in a couple aspects of my life I am genuinely happy but if we had to look at the overall picture, am I happy? Depends on what moment or mood you catch me in.

Well, overall happiness is directly related to your goal in life. If you have a goal and you are constantly striving towards it you are happy. It does not even matter if you smile rarely in the process but inside you are happy because you subconsiously know that you are doing yourself good.
On the contrary, if you have absolutely nothing to do most of the time then you would not be happy overall at all. You may be happy temporarily while playing a video game (in this case instead of your homework or study time) but imagine the depression caused by your bad grades that would come after!
So, basically you do not have to be in a good mood to be happy. You just need a goal in your life to do it. |

I would agree with you completely that it is a subjective question. For myself, if I am asked that question I always pay attention to the specific line of conversation and try to figure out "what" they want to know if I'm happy with. If the question comes literally out of nowhwere, I generally make a quick list of pros & cons in my head and answer yes or no according to the lengthier list! |
