Take it up with them and don't back down, it is unjust, daylight robbery and you should not allow them to get away with it, fight them to the bitter end and good luck. |

This subject is still under the scrutiny of the controlling authorities. Banks may still charge for non authorised overdrafts, bounced cheques, exceeding limits or not meeting direct debit commitments. However extreme pressure has been put on the banks to not charge more than it actually costs them to administer these. The suggestion is that the charge should be in the region of £12 instead of the £30 to £50 quoted. The banks will no doubt find other ways to make their money, like charging to administer current accounta for example. |

the banks are wrong!!! try that site penaltycharges.com and fight for your money back, the banks will never let it go to court as it will cost them billions rather than just the few million in paying back a few charges and currnetly there is no law saying that they can`t do this... maybe a court case is what they need to sort out this completely ridiculous charging system. |

have to laugh at some of the answers you are getting which a few are totally wrong, these charges have been found to be unlawful as they do not reflect the true cost like they charge you £35 for something that costs them around 50p its nothing more then a profit making scheme...... get your charges back they have never ever went to court they defend the claim until the very last minute which is court stage but if they actually go to court they face alot of questions, so they settle before court we are in the process of claiming back bank charges....
there was a programme on TV a few weeks ago telling you how to claim these charges back so i suggest some people who think these charges are fair they need to have a look at it cause there are wrong wrong wrong! |

The fsa has lowered charges with credit cards but not bank accounts as of yet unfortunately banks can charge you for being 1p overdrawn now, and they can charge you up to a maximum of £90 pounds in one month for being overdrawn i use to work for Lloyd's tsb so am sure that it will apply to other banks as well hope this helps i would suggest that you phone customer services and explain your situation you should be able to get one of them dropped if you get someone Nice on the phone |

Banks are no different now than 60 years ago except their charges are extortionate and no one seems to be able to stop their arrogant attitudes |

You need to read the rules and conditions when you signed up the account. It sounds to me that these are minimum charges the bank imposes thus its above board. Speak with the branch manager and see if he can waive one of the charge. |

Write in like thousands of others have done and you will get your money back. Swamp them with letters and complaints, but check you spelling first! Cheers |

I am afraid that they are.
Furthermore it is an offence to issue a cheque when you haven't the funds to cover it.
Usually, if you talk (nicely) to your local branch manager, they will cancel the charges for you.
The charges are generated automatically. Remember that if a cheque is presented and you bank cash on the same day, the bank will deduct the funds for the cheque first before adding in the cash, so you need to pay the cash in at least a day before.
If paying in a cheque, you will need to allow 3-5 days for the cheque to clear before the funds are available to spend.
I used to be with the Alliance and Leicester, but changed to one which suited me better. Having grown up from our local building society (The Leicester Permanent and The Leicester Temperance Building Societies), the queues in the branches were always very long.
It was a bad day for investors when building societies became banks. |

As you can't even spell the name of the bank properly (as well as several other words here) I doubt you took the trouble to read through the small print where they give you all this sort of information and clearly list all the charges - TO WHICH YOU AGREED when you you opened the account. |

If you are boucing checks, then you will and should be charged for each check. If you are unable to keep your accout ballanced, then maybe you should switch to a savings account and issue only money orders.
By the way, it makes no difference which bank to me. |
