Are pimples better popped or left alone. Which kinds of pimples generally cause scars and what should be done

they go away faster when left alone.

blackheads won't cause scars if you don't tear the skin.
whiteheads may.

Pop them one time to clear the pores so they can heal. If you let them go they will get all big and scar. Most of the small scars and marks dissappear. To prevent pimples you must wash the oil off your face pretty often,any time that it feels greasy to the touch, up to every two hours if you have to. That will stop them.

Pop them and then apply neosporin

Pimples will cause scarring when poped and also the infection can spread, even into your blood and cause serious damage. Soak the pimple with a warm tea bag for about 10min at a time. This helps bring it to the surface so it will pop naturally. Use proactive to prevent them. If pro active doesn't help, see a dermatologist.

They say not to pop them-- a pimple results from dirt in the pore-- which makes the puffy- yucky thing-- I would rather wash my hands--- get rid of it-- then have a red-puffy nasty thing staring everyone in the face...

Though not a doctor ... I got through my teens with no scaring on my face. I believe pimples are best "drained", "popping" can be traumatic. The key is timing. WHEN you pop/pinch is critical. If the pimple or boil is blind with no head or obvious center, then soak it with a hot washcloth. Once the pimple shows its "head", then the body is trying to push the infection out, and this is when to pop/pinch. There are many layers to the skin, so if the head can be seen well below the skin, it is best to either wait until the channel goes further to the surface, or lightly scrape the skin - use and abraisive soap so the "head" is closer to the surface. Scarring can occur if, when you "pop", you tear through too many layers of skin. Also, when you do pop, without going crazy, try to pinch the area until the resulting "hole" bleeds red blood. This cleanses the area from the inside. Then take a sheet of toilet paper and keep dabbing at the bloody "hole" until only clear serum is coming out to "clot" it. Then let the serum scab the wound naturally. Lastly, remember a pimple is an infection under the skin. If you pinch "too soon", and you don't get a good channel to pinch the pus through the skin, then you are going to spread the infection outside the effected area and make it worse.

So ... pinching is good. But only at the right time. Until then, use hot towels to help open the pores and allow one of those pores to become the tunnel for the pus.

Dr. told me to leave them alone or they spread and make more pimples.
