Are the rumors about the one dollar bill going to happen?

for the past like year or so, people have been saying that the government is going to be taking in all the one dollar bills and we are going to be using the two dollar bill or something like that. is that true? or just dumb people talking

its a lie...the gov't wouldnt waste the time and effort to collect aaalll the one dollar bills in the u.s....weve already got 2 dollar bills and they dunt really wrk out for banking (thats wut i do) becuz everythings counted in 1's 5's, 25's,50's, and 100's .....2'S would completely clash the counting system!..lol..

That's odd, I haven't hear-ed anything about that going to happen. But you never know these days, it might happen.

You did not mention which government you are referring to. In my country we have not been using one dollar bill for over 30 years.

If you are referring to the USD, it will be better to withdraw all the bills except the one dollar bill as all the USD bills look alike and sometime one may slip in a one dollar bill with the stack of a hundred dollar bills. See the problem?

There are no current plans to take the $1 Bill out of circulation. The have added a $1 coin recently. It was controversial because it did not have "In God We Trust." on the face of the coin. That phrase is actually stamped around the edge of the coin.

#1 When it comes to coins the metal the coin is made of is often more valuable than the coin. Years ago the penny was made from 100% copper. At some point, the prices of copper rose so high that people were melting their pennies to turn them into sheets of copper and sell for a higher value. The gov't. stepped in and started making pennies out of lead with just a copper coating to keep people from doing this. So that explains the never ending problem with coins via the current market value of the metal.

#2 There are conspiracy theorists that believe a currency called the Amero will be the future for American currency. This Amero will be the default currency for not only the U.S. but also for Canada and Mexico. While I can't see this happening it has become a prevalent issue. Even Lou Dobbs has been talking about the IMF swooping in with warehouses full of this "Amero" already printed up and that depending on how strong your currency is will dictate how much of the new money your old money is worth.

#3 As for as them just changing denominations from $1 to $2. I can't see that happening either. The reason we have $1 bills now revolves around the mathematical importance of the number 1. That is why we have a penny $0.01, a dime $0.10, $1, $10, $100, and $1,000 (although they will be more popular as inflation grows). nickels, quarters, $5s, $20s and $50s are just there for a convience factor and not as a functional necessity.
