I know what you mean. I have a hearing loss in my left ear. I've had this since I was about 3. There are many disadvantages, I agree: People having to repeat themselves, but you need to hear what is being said just in case it's important. I can't stand the fact that I can't tell where a sound is coming from. I do like that fact that I have an advantage of blocking out sound when sleeping or the fact that I can tune out some noises. I'd rather have hearing, don't get me wrong.. but that part is nice at least. Just live you life and love who you are. |

Yeah, I've got a high frequency loss in my ears. It's really annoying because I can hear fine if there's no background noise. But I can't hear people talk if there's other noises, like water running. |

ok there is this marvel of modern science called the q-tip
i know i know it is hard to believe but it can get things out of your ears so you can hear better
other than that see a doctor |

I am an Audiologist, so I work with the hearing impaired daily, and recognize how frustrating it is for everyone involved when someone has hearing loss.
If you want or need hearing aids in order to perform your job duties, you may be eligible to get some really high tech, expensive devices for at NO COST TO YOU through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. I don't know which state you're in, so you'll have to do a web search. There's an office in every county, usually by the Unemployment office. You can start your search here: http://www.google.com/search?as_q=Vocational+Rehabilitation&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=lang_en&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=.gov&as_rights=&safe=images |

I am not hard of hearing, but I do have a major issue with selective hearing.
I have asked many people to repeat themselves, but mainly because I am focused on something else. If this is your case, do what I am learning to do.. refocus on the person talking to you |

No but my daughter can't talk and is very hard to be able to understand when she tries so it is like frustrating to her and I . Kinda like what you go through. We have a parakeet that can talk better than her and my husband said it is so unfair that people take all we have for granted. The Best to you ! |

My mom says the same thing... I have selective hearing, and other than that, does it count that I turn up the volume on my stereo really loud, so I can't really hear stuff after I get out? Sorry people are like that, they're just stupid and insensitive. |

I'm in my 30s also i have a bad sinus problem and 99% of the time i am deaf. the only thing i can hear is a high pitched ringing in my ears 24 hours a day. most of the time if i can hear some one i cant make out what they are saying. i wish some of the smart *** people who make fun of other people would feel the pain they cause, it just shows how stupid they are. i had rather be deaf then stupid. |
