Just let them know you're not happy with other people getting more than you & let them know that you'll be looking around for a better alternative
If they don't want to lose you, you may get your rise
You must mean what you say though, it's no use making empty threats |

Never issue an ultimatum unless you're prepared for the bad side of it.
Ask your supervisor what the standard for raises is, do you have to be there a certain length of time? Are there other things you need to learn before you're eligible for a raise? Are raises automatic or do they come after an annual evaluation? |

No ultimatum yet. Ask your manager for a chat and ask him to explain why you're getting £2 an hour less than everyone else. If the explanation isn't reasonable, ask for equal pay. If that's refused, go for the ulitmatum. You can get your union rep to help with this if its appropriate, that's what unions are for. |

Well my dear chap you don't provide much background so I'm going to make some assumptions. O.K.? First, ask yourself "what have I done for my company that clearly proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I have "earned" a merit pay raise?". That should narrow it down pretty much. Next, ask yourself "if I were the boss, would I give "me" a pay raise?". By now I think you have your answer. If you have a list of reasons from the first part, you have your argument with management to request a pay raise. But, on the other hand, if you don't then it's time to begin updating your resume and start looking for another job. Just because Jimmy or Teddy make 8.50 and you make less does not automatically qualify you for a pay raise. You don't know the circumstances on which they received their merit increases, do you? Good luck and hope you have many reasons from the first part. That should make it easy to ask for a "merit" pay raise. |

you need to talk discreetly with the manager. many things would be evaluated in his mind such as how long you have been there, are you honest, diligent, on time, do not miss work, how you get along with others,if you are not a trouble maker, are you cooperative. also as a far fetched example, just because you buy a new Mercedes you can not expect your employer to pay for it.ultimate ms only cause more problems for you and then you become less valuable and a threat. |

The method you use greatly depends on how disposable you are. If you are eaisily replaced, than I would not go with the threat of leaving. If you are a critical part of the function of the company, than you could probably try it.
I think if you go with the honest and respectful approach, you will have the best results. Simply say "Sir(assuming it is a male), I feel like the work I do here is worth more than I am getting paid. Do you think it would be possible for me to get a raise?"
...and if you cant honestly say that, than you probably dont actually deserve one. |

I think it depends on the companys procedure for a rise. I would find that out before you go storming off to anyone. Once you know that and you feel that you should have an increase, ask for an appt to see the boss/manager. Have a speech prepared about all the good things you can do and have done for the company this far, really sell yourself, then at the end ask for the rise. Dont do in spouting off that others have more of an hourly rate than you. When you want something, never do others down but big yourself up! |

Put together a good business case why you are a benefit to the business and worth what the others are getting. You will also need to be prepared to walk if they say no. |

Don't threaten. Just say 'I understand all the others doing the same type of work as me are getting paid far more. Do you think this is fair, because i don't? 'Can you tell me why this is? the ball is then in their court to answer! You may not like it if they say you are thicker or more lazy or dishonest but at least you have had a go |

You should ask to speak with your boss alone, and explain to him/her that you know you are an asset to his buisness and in order to keep you motivated toward exceeding his expectations, you would like for him to consider a pay raise. If you feel that your worth more than what you're being paid now, yes, give him/her that ultimatium. |
