answers, answers | Ballet, or other type of dance? |
Hi. I am a 10th grade male, and I am interested in taking up some sort of dance. I love figure skating, but I'm too clumsy to attempt such a feat, and on ice nonetheless! Is ballet similar? Or do you recommend some other style to start out with? I've taken gymnastics, but have had very little professional dance instruction. I'd love to improve, but I'm not sure where to start. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks! ~ Mr. Wonderful

Hmm...if some of you recommend something besides ballet based on the fact that it's not really masculine, thanks but no thanks. Let's face it, I'm NOT masculine, and I'd be very happy taking such a class if it would benefit me and/or be reasonable. :) |

Ballet is the best foundation for any type of dance training, ice skating, hip-hop, modern for example, not to mention a great foundation for sports and life. Find a qualified ballet instructor, a lot of studios offer ballet, but do not have the proper training to really be doing it. Look for things like a RAD certificate, B.A. in dance, or past professional ballet experience. If you get that kind of training in the beginning you will be able to do all the other dance disciplines with ease. For example, A well trained ballet dancer can walk into the most advanced jazz class and be at the top to start, but unfortunately it does not work in the reverse.

Ballet is a good choice since you seem familiar. But I think that I'd dig a hip hop guy more than a ballet one. Hip hop is just plain cool. =D uber hot. =D |

No matter WHAT type of dance you prefer or will end up doing, it all begins with ballet.
Ballet is MANDATORY for ALL forms of dance. You MUST take ballet first, unless you want to look like a cow on rollerskates.
ANY dance instructor will tell you that.

modern ballet(free ballet I don't know for sure how it is called)it is a type of ballet combined with theatrical moves,and there is a lot of improve.I've seen some,it is wonderful,it is much more expressive than regular ballet and it is like a danced theatre play.
It is great when boys don't think about sports like ballet as sports for gay guys only,I have a friend who is in a ballet class and he is a normal guy.
P.S how did it work with the cute guy?:)hope it worked out well.

Well, I took ballet long ago and I didn't really like it. Then I took Hip Hop classes, LOVED that! And I've only been ice-skating once, and I never fell! Ice-skating is easy and really fun! |

well, first. i've never heard of a guy with those type hobbies. But ballet is similar, i mean, i guess you should give it a try. i took it and i liked it but im not sure how it is for guys. You do alot of bending and strectching and stuff like that. But you took gymnastics so i say try it. Who says ballet is impossible for a guy? :P!!! |

My 12 year old son took tap for a couple years & loved it. It was really cool to watch him do it, too. He stopped taking tap this year because alot of his friends were teasing him. He plays alot of sports too, and I saw a definite improvement in his soccer dribbling when he took tap. I think men who do tap are cool! Look how sexy Gregory Hines was in White Nights! |
