Keep fighting it and send a copy of any written complaint to the banks regulating agency. A lot of banks do this sort of thing--and they advertise "free checking" but then they nickel and dime you on all kinds of fees and charges. My bank charges me $3.00 if I call the automated machine more than 6 times in one month to see what checks have cleared. Just another stupid fee. You have to keep on top of it all, though-- even if you manage to get this set of fees cleared, you have to make sure you have money in your account because the banks are striving mightily to find every way possible to charge you for something. You have to beat them at their own game. |

I once wrote a cheque for $8.99 or so for a pizza during lunch. I didn't have the money in my account just yet so I was floating the cheque but my payday was in 2 days and I figured I would have the money by then. It's not right, but people do it all the time.
Anyway, September 11th happened and my paycheck was delayed because of the shutdown in air travel and I didn't have direct deposit at the time. Well my pizza cheque went through and of course I didn't have the money. So I got a fee from the pizza place, from their bank, from my bank, and then lawyer's fees. My lunch ended up costing over $100 easily. And nobody was willing to waive any fees over a nine dollar cheque.
At least you got half of your fees waived. |

I would keep fighting it. The bank shouldnt really be taking any interest charges out unless they have informed you first. Do you have an overdraft with them? If not, try to arrange one as this may help in the future if it does happen again. I understand where you are coming from and to charge you for going over by a pound basically stinks, especially when it was the bank that caused the problem in the first place.
Seek legal advice if needed.
Good luck |

go to www.bankcharges.info and you should find a form that you fill in to get any charges back that your bank has incurred on you that are unreasonable, it also includes charges you may of had for going over your over draft limit and you can claim for the last five years. |

If u take them 2 court they will close ur accs + u wont b able 2 use that bank again 4 any service.
Check what this means e.g. what other brands do they own?
Then decide if its worth loosing them.
Personally I wouldn't go as far as court for £25 odd, try constant complaints to different departments.
THREATENING COURT ACTION WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS ACTUALY GOING 2 COURT. |

I understand exactly how you feel - a direct debit was set up without me knowing and it took over 40 pounds out of my bank - the ovarall costs, including the direct debit would have gone over 100 pounds. I managed to get them wavered by explaining they should have never let the money leave my account in the first place.
However banks have to charge so much and for petty reasons because all the other services of banking we get here are SO much cheaper than that abroad - we get to bank for free, internet banking and all other kinds of stuff - hence high charges for direct debits and over-drafts. |

Threaten them with small claims court. No bank has ever gone through the courts to date for this type of thing. All have settled out of court. Apparently it's unlawful for banks to make these types of charges so stand your ground. You will get your money back although they may close your account so be prepared to open another with a different bank. |

It is illegal for them to charge you for being overdrawn, check out this website which has legal advice that will help you and even has some template letters you can send them.

Just inform the bank that you will take your account elsewhere if they refuse to waive all charges - then see what happens!! |

You must learn what rules your bank uses. This bank isn't consumer friendly. Find another bank. Don't waste your time sueing. Talk to the bank, but if they won't remove the charges, forget about it and get on with your life. Keep things in perspective. Is this the most important thing going on in your life. Allocate your time to what's important to you. Time is money. |
