Here are a few of my ideas:
1. Go through your items and sell stuff on ebay...you would be surprised at what you can sell!
2. Shop at discount clothing stores! I shop at one all of the time that sells DESIGNER clothes for cheap! I just bought a urbanoutfitters jacket for 5.00!(www.ruggedwearhouse.com).
3. Do not waste food! When cooking, only cook the amount that you and/or your mate will eat! Normally, people do not like leftovers and they end up throwing food out!
4. If you do make too much of something when cooking, freeze it! It is like microwaving a store-bought meal...plus you are not wasting!
5. Limit the amount that you spend eating out! It is costly!
6. Be creative! For example, instead of buying new curtains, make your own! Or, buy some plain tanks(buy a pack of men's tanks...they are about 5.00 for a pack of 3!) and iron on a cute design!
7. Drink water, tea, or kool-aid! Buying sodas becomes expensive!
8. Fill-up your car when gas is cheap...prices seem to go up and down a lot, so it is best to fill-up when it is cheapest!
9. Instead of paying for a gym membership(which adds up), work-out at home!
10. Only use your cell phone when you have unlimited minutes! With some companies, you can add extra hours to your "night" minutes...it is worth it!
11. For traveling, use discount companies that are online(priceline.com, expedia.com)...they are much cheaper than travel agencies!
12. For furniture, try shopping in thrift stores, flea markets, and discount furniture stores(Value City furniture, Big Lots furniture)
13. Try shopping online! There are many sites that are able to offer cheaper items than stores!
a. textbooks: www.half.com
b. clothes: www.classiccloseouts.com, www.the15dollarstore.com, www.gojane.com, www.alloy.com(clearance section is awesome), www.daisymaze.com
c. Designer items, jewelry etc: www.overstock.com
d. Bedding:www.brylanehome.com
14. For entertainment:
a. go see an early movie(they are cheaper)
b. Check out local talent(musicians, plays etc)
c. support the arts: museums are free!
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!! Have fun! |

Buy in bulk. Buy produce in season. Grow your own fruits or vegetables. Barter your services for what you need. Go to yard sales, flea markets, online auctions. Reduce your use of water, electricity, heating fuels. Walk or bicycle instead of driving. Carpool. Take your lunch to work or school instead of buying lunch. |

Though not popular, a budget is still the best way to save money. You'll know where it all goes, when you plan where it goes. Make a budget sheet, listing all your bills and when they're due. Also, put a few lines for other stuff, like food, gas for the car, lunches, and other out of pocket payments. Write down everything that is spent, even for that bottle of pop from the local gas station. When you see where your money goes, you can cut down on what you spend. Buy your pop in 2 liter bottles, instead of single serving bottles. Look for sales, and stock up. Shop at Aldi's, Shop-A-Lot, and the many dollar stores that are springing up all over (Dollar General has cheap groceries). Make sure you work in your insurance, property tax and other things that come less frequently. When handling those infrequent bills, divide them into installments, then don't spend that money. Either put it in a marked envelope, or just make sure you don't take that amount out of your checking account. You could even open a separate account just for your property taxes and deposit so much a month so that you'll have the full amount at tax time, plus interest. There are a ton of ways you can save on household bills too. Like making sure unnecessary lights are turned off, running the washers after 10 pm, installing flourescent bulbs where regular bulbs are, doing full loads of laundry instead of partial loads (this saves on electric, over the long run). Turn your thermostat down to 66 or lower and wear warm clothes and slippers. Put insulated curtains on your windows and pull them closed every night, or when the temperature gets below zero (even thermo glass gets cold). Make sure your appliances are in good working order, so that they aren't drawing more electricity than what they should. You might have to replace some of your older appliances because they aren't energy efficient. Do regular maintenance on your home, as well as everything you own. Taking good care of everything you own often makes your things last longer. Of course, there is the time honored thing called the garage sale, where you can sell all your "gently" used items. You can also make and sell your craft items, if you are into crafts. Some crafts sell better than others, so check out the flea markets and see what seems to move the best. Then, make some of those, and sell them cheaper at your garage sale. The last day of your garage sale, have a $5.00 bag sale, so that you can clean out your garage faster. You can then box up the remaining stuff and donate it to a church charity, who will give you a statement of the value of your donated items that can be used as a deduction, when you itemize your taxes. If you have any antiques, you can check on ebay and see what others are asking for simialr items. Then sell yours. I know this one fella who sees what sells best on ebay, then cruises the flea markets and buying these items. He then sells them on ebay, often making much more than what he bought them for. He makes quite a bit of money, working from his home. Though this isn't a way to save money, it actually helps bring in a little extra. <*)))>< |

It isn't very unique, but the very best way to save money is to create and stick to a budget. Write down each bill that you pay every month, then figure out how much you spend on groceries, gas, ect... Stick to it! |

Do things yourself, not to mention cakes (see link)... I have recently saved money by putting a new roof on my house (saved over $5000.00) and putting new sway bar links on our van (saved over $200.00)...
That's how I save money! |

Every day when you come home from school/work take the loose change (coins) you have in your pockets/purse and put it in a jar. Never take any change out of the house with you, only paper money (bills)...always put the change in the jar. After a month or two, check out the jar...you'll be amazed how much money is in there! |

Shop Factory outlets, Food warehouse. Pay cash for your purchases and interest charges. Make money selling your unwanted items in garage sales or flea markets. |
|

Oooh La La !

Write down everything you spend, so you can see where you waste money. Put all money into a bank account, and only take it out when you need it. Pay with cash, not debit or credit, so that instantly your money is gone and it does not seem like you have more to spend. |

I like the old approach of "living within your means" and purchasing only what is necessary and the occasional bit of entertainment. I don't get paid well, but manage to save more than the majority of people my age. Actually, I save more than my brother, who gets paid over twice as much as me, has fewer and cheaper bills, and was living with my parents. I have been on my own since I was 17, now 21; he was mooching the entire time and is finally moving out due to engagement at 27. Another idea to save a few bucks is to put your change in a jar and never carry change. You'll be less inclined to break the bills and you won't want to deal with change anymore. After a few months it should add up pretty well. That's obviously small amounts of money, but every little bit helps, right? |

Another way is to just spend less. Simplify your life so that you don't require as many material things. |

Get the best size for the price. Sometimes the best price per quantity for an item is not necessarily on the biggest container. If you could do your arithmetic, you'd be surprised to find that a lot of items do NOT obey the principle of the more => the cheaper! Compute the per unit cost and buy the best size! |
