Can I make a cheque out to two names?
They have a joint bank account

Yes. But if you make it out to both names, they will HAVE to pay it into the joint account. Cheques made out to just one name can be paid into sole or joint accounts bearing that name.

Yes but one is enough.

Red
yes, but you could make it out to one of them also.

bumblingbeermonster
With a joint bank account, no problem, although they will have to pay it into that account.

yeah if they have a joint account you can make it to either or both

You would have to ask them how you should make the cheque out. If they are married have the same surname it should be made out to

mr and mrs a f anyone.

better off asking them mate coz otherwise the bank will have a hissy because banks are like that!!! Hate banks!!!

V
Yes just make it out to me Frank James

In theory yes. A cheque is just a standard format of a written instruction to your bank.

I have written cheques out that say things like "not more than £3,000 but under instruction of the presenter" if I'm not sure how much the person is to receive, and relied on them stating the correct amount on the cheque.

Getting the bank teller to accept it is another matter.

In fact, now I think about it you see cheques paid out to 2 people all the time, from your bank, mortgage etc

jennijan
Then YES. If its a joint account, either personal OR business, you can make it out to both, (or sometimes three) signatories.

stranger in paradise
i believe so...
