Usually, you have to file a claim with the municipality or county. If that claim is refused, then you can proceed with seeking legal remedy. |

yes , but you going to need avery good attorney for this . and more than likely you will still fail in your efforts . its just to hard to prove them as guilty of an injust act . you have almost got to have video of the situation to point in your favor , most the time even a witness on your behalf dosent help you at all ..... good luck |

Sure you can sue them, but on what grounds? They are generally immune from suit if they are acting reasonably in the process of doing their jobs. One can sue them for violating your civil rights (as in that guy in LA who sued the police after they got the beating on tape, Rodney King).
However, beware of making false accusations. Many police cars have videos running and they can't turn them off or tamper with them, so they are admissible in court. There was a case recently where a woman sued a policeman for groping her, the tape showed plainly that he did not, and she ended up serving jail time for it. |

Sometimes the police legitimately NEED to be sued. In my case my brother was missing, the family reported him missing and gave lots of details to the police. They didn't even go out & check his property, which is where I found his bones scattered three months later. If they had done their JOB, I wouldn't be traumatized now. I WISH I COULD SUE THEM. |

In this day and age you can sue anyone, for just about anything... It's very sad. But winning is a very diffrent subject. Unless you have a very strong case, a good reason, and a good lawyer. mostly likely it will just be a waste of time. |
