"Federal work rules on the issue are murky. In 1998,
the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
released an interpretative memo stating employers
should give workers "timely access" to facilities.
What exactly timely access constitutes has largely been left to companies to interpret."

In all honesty I don't know but, I can say with certainy that if that is the case where you work it is time to find new employment. If your employer treats his employees that badly they should all quit and force him to change or at least deal with hugh turnover in employees which would effect his profits.

definately get out the most recent employee handbook and look at it and read it carefully. Then sue the crap out of the company. That is ridiculous!

I think Natural way 42 gave you a good answer. I am a supervisor in a plant and there is no reason for me to tell a employee to punch out when he or she goes to the bath room except for the reason naturalway stated. If you abuse that then some thing has to be done. Even then keep in mind that some times a person may get the runs, but there are exceptions in every thing. I recomend that he (Naturalway42) be chosen for the best answer on this one.

in the UK it is illegal, health and Safety executive states that bathroom facilities must be available and that an employer cannot deduct time for the use of them

Piss on his feet and see if he'll ask you to punch out again.

Generally they would do it when someone of your coworkers is 'overusing' the bathroom. I knew a guy at my last job who used to stick inside for an hour (probably catching some sleep). They had made this rules for all the workers for about a month. Eventually he got fired and the rule still existed but nobody really followed it after.

Nooooo!!! It's time to pull out ur employee handbook.
Randomguylol
Most likely, they can. You work for them, so I'd assume they'd want you to get paid only the bare minimum, so they'll try to deduct time for using facilities. It's how they make a bit of extra profit.
