If the debt is owed for the item that they're taking then yes otherwise no. The idea of HP is that you're hiring an item until its purchased and so the company own the item you don't, but you may have to show an HP agreement for such items. Items that are on finance deals on the other hand are completely different because you own the item immediately, therefore the bailiff can seize it.
Get some better advice about bailiffs because they have a really bad name at the moment and doing a lot of things that are illegal. |

The laws surrounding Bailiffs is the most antiquated of our times , it seems apparent that they can do what they like , take what they like and add on charges that actually put you further in debt . The sooner laws are passed to deal with this anomalous situation the better . AFTERAL whats the purpose of taking goods , selling them at ridiculous prices and adding more charges that finally have the effect of increasing the debt , have . ? certainly the person sending in Bailiffs gets no satisfaction from this situation . |

No, because you are only hiring it until you complete payments- hence the name hire- purchase. If you are having your property seized though, it seems unlikely any decent company would give you credit, or HP. |

Only the property that belonged to you at the time the warrant was issued can be levied. Bailiffs can levy on goods jointly owned by the person named on the warrant and someone else. Bailiffs GENERALLY do not levy goods that are on hire, hire purchase, lease, or conditional sale agreements. You would, of course, have to have the necessary paperwork to prove the above. They certainly can and sell it to offset your debt with them. The HP company will then seek to settle your debt with them and may send more bailiffs round. A vicious circle. |
