I think that so long at the GPS is enabled they 'can' track you. However, they absolutely CANNOT fire you for going to certain places on your own time. I'd say just to mess with them, go drive to a strip club and sit outside for a couple of hours... then maybe go to a gay bar in that evening. Think of some really strange places and just 'park'.
If they bring it to your attention, then perhaps you can bring up this issue about tracking you on your own personal time.

Yep, the car is their property and they have every right to track it every second of every day. I'm interested to know how they worked the whole personal use charge thing as I have never heard of that flying before. |

Sounds like a raw deal. If they own the title I would assume they could track their property wherever and whenever they want.
I don't like your deal one bit and if you like your job alot your stuck. But if you don't like it then change jobs. |

How big of a company is it? If it's large, nobody is going to care to ever look at where you're going on your own time. |

Yes, they can track how you use a company car. It's their car, and you are obliged to use it ( or not use it) as you see fit.
Why did you sell your old car. Did they force you to, or was that by your own choice. |

I think it depends on the company policy. Where I work, company cars are only to be used for company business (ie if you travel a lot for work like for sales, etc you use the company car). You don't use it for grocery shopping or personal travel or to take your kids to soccer practice, etc. It ends up being cheaper for many companies to do it this way than pay the ridiculous however many cents a mile the reimbursement rate is. |

How does the company giving you a car force you to sell yours??? That confuses the hell out of me as I have a company car and a personal car and have had both for 3 years with ZERO issues.
Point blank, if you use the company car for PERSONAL time you pay for it. You buy the gas and you get charged mileage.
Use the car for work then park it at home and you use your car you pay NOTHING.
Why did you sell your car in the first place????? |

When you are on personal time, they can not track you or tell you where you can go, as long as your are keeping the car in good condition and pay for the gas, though there might be a problem if you take it into another state or go a long distance with it. I would get another job that doesn't force you to do anything! |
