You can barter at ANY shop, with varying degrees of success. |

Barter Barter Barter - my brother in law not only got a reduced price on the microwave he wanted but by the time he had finished they gave him a free toaster!
That was in Comet a couple of years ago. Big companies will barter if they think they will lose the sale. Go in and find the best TV you can for 50 quid over your £600 budget - then tell them that you are interested but can only afford £500.00 what is the best deal they could do on this tv.
But if they don't try this site on line : http://www.dealpond.com/
They will find the best price for you. |

Yeah you can but your more likely to get extra software with your purchase rather than money off the price in the first place.. for example.. they may throw in a free tv stand with your telly if you haggle a bit or if your buying a full surround sound system you may be able to get a free dvd player or something! Give it a go you never know till you try... |

they all want your money just as much as you want to keep it, everybody is up for a barter, they didn't get those big posh stores by paying for them themselves, they were purchased with customers money, don't be fooled by the extended warranty either, your purchase will automatically have at least one years manufacturers warrenty on it anyway.
if the salesman says do you want an extended warrenty just say '' why do i need it? isnt it any good?'' they will say of couse its good and then you say'' well i wont need it then will i'' the extended warrenty you pay for runs from when you purchase the goods and not when the manufacturers warrenty runs out so you are paying for a warrenty you dont need |

We tried it and failed but if you get the manager he might be more amenable to giving you a dscount...you won;t know if you don't try.
We went to our local friendly neighbourhood store and they gave us 20 pounds off of the asking price...so there are deals to be done if your bold enough.
We ought to haggle more in the Uk look at other cultures they expect someone to haggle over the price of goods. We are just a soft touch here in this country we really are. And we line the pockets of the already wealthy. |

yes it is BLOODY rude. But you should always ask if there is a discount for cash, when making large purchases of this type.
I doubt if Currys or Comet will entertain you but smaller dealers might.
I know for a fact that most music shops will give discounts for cash on guitars amps etc. |

Yeah you can. The more expensive the item the more likely they are to take the price down a bit. Worth a try. |

you need to shop around and get the best prices for the same tv in other stores or online and take the details into the comet then currys and see if they do a like for like pricing they normally do. |

It's a bit harder to barter down in larger shops like this, smaller shops are much easier. Though saying that the supervisors are authorised to offer discounts to clear unwanted stock (can't remember the figures but it's a bit).
If the item is an end of line item, display item or if you are buying a few items at once from there then I would definitely see if they can make you an offer, they probably wont knock money off and instead chuck a couple of things in such as free speakers for your surround sound.
Worst thing they can do is say no, try your luck. |
